July Cottage

The photo of the Cottage for July is out see here.

Now is it wrong to totally change a design, is it a breach of copyright?
I will not be stitching this as it is, as I am English and proud of it. And there is nothing wrong with People celebrating their national holidays, but it is not me. I hope that doesn't make me sound bad, it was the same for March I am not Irish so changed that one!

I am probably gonna be told off here, but why are American proud to celebrate St Patrick's day, but not St George's day, or St Andrew's or St David's day when they are more likely descendant from those nationalities as well. I do hope someone from abroad could let me know so i am not so ignorant of why this is?

I did ask if they would maybe do an alternate design for those of us who are not American or into Americana stuff. But I didn't see a reply unless I missed it.

Umm I may just leave that one until I decide as I would like to change that to a English summer theme, I will do the same for the November one.
what do you think?

It's the reason i dont usually stitch months etc when designed by a US designer Rachael. You could always put a tree where the flag is and make the cottage a country cottage with roses etc round the door, colour it cream or pale yellow... or you could try to make the flag a UK one as you are stitching it in the Jubilee year.
It will be interesting to see what other suggestions you get.

I know exactly where you are coming from...the English do not even celebrate St Georges day which is a shame. I am pretty sure changing a design is nothing to do with copywrite laws...so you should be ok. You would be using it as a template for your own design lol xxx

It's not against copyright to change a design UNLESS you then try to pass it off as your creation or try sell the "new" chart.
I think Americans feel more of an empathy with the Irish because they see both countries as being "put upon" by the English in the past.
Because of America's War of Independence against England they can more easily identify with Northern Ireland's battle for the same thing.
Or maybe they just prefer Guinness to real ale!
Looking forward to seeing your changed design!

St. Patricks Day obviously started with Irish immigrants and it just stuck over here I guess. I am changing up my cottages as well. I don't think there is anything wrong with it, as long as you are purchasing the patterns. I am not adding any of the month names to mine. I just don't like it I guess. I am also change up some colors here and there to suit my tastes. Can't wait to see your July version.

I'm with you Rachael, this (and the Thanksgiving ones in November) is the reason I never do any of the otherwise wonderful monthly series out there.
No it isn't a breach of copyright to change a design a bit, so long as you don't pass the changed version off as your own design.
How aboubt changing July to Jubilee, then you'd only need to alter the flasg

It is your design, Rachael, paid for by you, and as Jo said, as long as it is for you or a gift, then fine.

The Thanksgiving could be be changed to more Harvest? But that would change the month too? I like July to Jubilee as Christine says.

Quite a few Americans who celebrate have much diluted Irish blood in their veins, lol!

Hello

I totally agree with you about changing the July design. It would be nice if there was an alternative design for non-Americans.
Hope you have a good weekend.
